Diet Pill Manufacturer SLAPPs Harvard Medical School Professor

In 2001, manufacturer of the Metabolife herbal diet pill sued a Harvard Medical School professor for product defamation from statements he made in a consumer report on the safety of diet pills containing ephedrine.  Blackburn was able to take advantage of the California anti-SLAPP law to have the case dismissed in a ruling affirmed by U.S. Court of Appeals for Ninth Circuit, and to recover more than $350,000 in attorneys fees and costs.
